Mackie Multitrack Mixer

This mixer looks small compared to the mixers you usually see in pictures in studios. Don't let that fool you. It can easily handle 8 vocal mics, several guitars, and drums. That allows me to edit each track separately. If the lead guitarist misses a note or two we can fix it without having to do redo the entire song. It is connected to a computer by firewire. That's 16 tracks recorded simultaneously. Additional tracks can be added later. In theory there is no limit to the number of tracks that can be placed in a recording.

An alternative is to record each individual instrument and vocal separately, one at a time. But, this takes much longer
